This blog is kind of a spilling over of my journaling urge, I think. I kept a journal regularly for years – through my teen years and into college, and have kept one off and on since marriage, though never as regularly as before. I still have the urge to narrate my life and thoughts, however.
Fortunately I have been blessed with a husband who is interested in listening to whatever I have to say, and so I generally tell him just about everything that’s been going on, both in life and in my thoughts. However, he’s not at my side all the time, and I have found that I still have to narrate my thoughts – I just do it in my head (I don’t talk to myself out loud, usually). Talking it through is good, but I’m not sure it’s quite the same as writing it out. Having to think about something in order to write it out can really help with clarifying thoughts. In part because of that I have wanted for a while now to get back to writing more regularly.
So that’s what is behind the journal urge, and the blog adds a couple things to that: 1) it lets me share my thoughts/doings with others who might be interested, without my having to decide whether I think a certain person would be interested (as I would have to do to send e-mails), and 2) it adds the fun of being able to put up photos with my entries.
