Ten Years and Counting

We have been married for one decade now!  Our life in that time was not always what I would have guessed, but it has been very good.  And we’ve actually reached some of the goals that we had way back then:  teaching at a small college out in “the middle of nowhere”, and, along with [...]

Going back to college

After eight years since my last college class, I’ve gone back to college, this time as a freshman.  I’m taking Latin along with the freshmen here.  Even though I’ve already had two years of Latin in college, and some of the other students had had a year or two of Latin in high school, the [...]

My birthday present

New shelves for the pantry!
These were put in on my birthday, and have been a great convenience, adding both extra shelves to the kitchen, and extra counter space.  We were even fortunate enough to have an old friend who happens to be an electrician visiting us on that day, and he installed a light [...]

What we’ve been up to

Since our visitors left on Tuesday, we’ve been planning school for this fall (yes, still planning, even though we’ll be starting in just over a week!), picking cherries, making cherry jam, peach jam, peach wine, and pear butter.  And last of all, we’ve been getting sick.  Yes, again.  For the third time this summer!  So [...]

Wyoming Plague?

So, most of us are sick–again.  Four weeks after the last time.  This seems really strange, after we spent two years in Florida, and never got sick there.  Well, I think the kids had a mild cold once.  We never had a big family illness.  Now we’ve gotten hit hard twice in the first month [...]

Headlines of the day

Stocking Up For Winter:

Based on the size of the trailer J. used to haul it, it looks like about half a cord of wood.
Discovery of the Day:

These are a few bushes in our backyard with berries that have been getting ripe over the last few weeks.  The kids have been begging to know if they [...]

Summer Class Begins

Today was J’s first day of teaching a summer grad class on the Synoptic Gospels. As is typical of summer classes, it will be short (three weeks) but intense.
This would make a logical point for us to begin some homeschooling, and I had originally intended to do that. Instead I have discovered that [...]

What’s a gate for, anyway?

We put this up today:
Why? To prevent falls, of course. Obvious, right? Well, not to everybody. We got the gate home, and looked at the instructions, and it said, very clearly: “To prevent falls, DO NOT put this gate at the top of stairs.” Hmmm. Well, to [...]

Happy Birthday, David!

Yesterday, that is.
David, our first-born son. Also, our first baby to be born in America. Six years ago now! That means he’s old enough to start First Grade this fall. I can’t believe I have two kids in school already. How did the time fly by so fast?

Breaking the Silence

Okay, so I’ve had a hard time picking up my blog again. A lot has happened since I last posted: we had our ninth anniversary, we completed our move to Wyoming, we took possession of our very own house, we unloaded all our belongings into said house, and then we all succumbed one [...]
